FAQs
What can I do with SportsRush?
You can use your
mobile phone to:
- Place wagers
- Convenient wagering from virtually
anywhere, anytime
- View your account balance
- Bank deposit facility
How do I sign up for SportsRush?
Before you can use SportsRush, you must have an existing betting account
with Sports Acumen. You can sign up online here.
You will also need a compatible mobile phone and a data wireless plan
with your network provider. All major carriers in
Australia provide these. Because SportsRush is very
efficient in its use of mobile internet, you’ll only need a minimal plan
even if you is it frequently; typically, less
than 5 MB per month is all that’s needed.
Do I need a separate Sports Acumen account for SportsRush?
For
testing, we will provide you with a special account for your use.
However, once SportsAcumen Mobile Betting is released, you can use your
existing account information to login to SportsAcumen Mobile Betting.
What exactly is SportsRush?
SportsRush is a small Java application that uses the exact same data
as the Sports Acumen web site to display on the small screen of your mobile phone. In effect you
are betting on the Internet, SportsRush is just optimizing what you
see.
How do I use my mobile phone to make a bet?
When using the mobile
phone for surfing and betting here are some tips:

The size of the screen differs for the various models of mobile
phones. You may see scroll bars on the right and the bottom of the
screen - they mean there is more information than what is currently
shown on the screen. Always check for more information when you see a
scroll bar.
If you have any problems, please contact
us!
What are the general requirements for mobile
phones?
Simply put, you will need a late model mobile phone that supports
Java and has been enabled for Internet access. Any mid- to high-end
phone supplied by one of the major carriers (in Australia, these are
Telstra, Optus, Vodafone and Hutchison 3G) will be suitable.
Even if your phone is a few years, it may still be good for
SportsRush. However, SportsRush may load slowly or not at all if your
phone's processor is slow or memory is limited. Once SportsRush is
running, you'll find that the speed of operation varies little between
newer and older phones.
If you do experience problems, please help us to help you. Contact us
using the details here, and please tell
us the make and model of your mobile phone (you can usually find the
model number under the battery or memory module of your phone).
Is my personal data secure?
Security is an integral part of the SportsRush system.
- Full 128-bit end-to-end encryption technology is used during
wireless transactions so your personal information and transaction
data is safe between your mobile device and the Sports Acumen
servers.
- Your account information is stored on our back-end systems – not
on your mobile phone.
- SportsRush has approval from the ACT Gaming and Racing
Commission, in line with Sports Acumen’s compliance requirements.
How do I get Internet access on my mobile phone?
This is handled by your mobile phone carrier (eg, Telstra, Optus,
Vodafone, Three, and others). Many different plans are available
specifically for data usage, but typically you will have a choice of
plans giving you access up to a maximum amount of traffic (eg, 100 MB
per month) or a fixed MB of data, for a capped fee.
In addition, all carriers allow "ad-hoc" access to their mobile data
network. You need to be aware that these rates are much, much
higher than the plan rates. We strongly recommend you sign up to a data
plan with your carrier.
Of all the carriers, the best value plans are those from Hutchison
3G. Heavy users of SportsRush should not see more than $5.00 per month
of data access charges, and we recommend you check them out.
Telstra's plans appear to be the most expensive.
SportsRush is very efficient in its use of mobile Internet, so you’ll
only need a minimal plan even if you are a heavy user of SportsRush –
typically, less than 5 MB per month is all that’s needed.
Internet access is not always turned “on” by default. If it’s not
enabled, you will need to contact the customer service of your mobile
phone provider:
- Telstra: 12 51 11
- Optus: 1300 301 937
- Hutchinson 3G (Three): 13 33 20
- AAPT: 13 88 88
- Vodafone: 1300 650 410
Does it matter which network provider I use?
Absolutely not. SportsRush works with any GPRS carrier network (2.5G
or 3G), and this network compatibility is transparent to you. As long as
there is data service in your area, you will be able to use SportsRush.
Note that VirginMobile does NOT support data access, so SportsRush
can't be used at this time with Virgin.
How much does SportsRush cost?
SportsRush is FREE and there is no cost to download! The only
additional charges you may incur include data fees (per amount of MBytes
transferred), data plan fees (flat rate unlimited data wireless plan)
and roaming fees. Always check with your carrier for details.
What happens if I lose my wireless connection
when I’m using SportsRush?
If you lose a data wireless connection while using SportsRush, you
will be able to resume normal operation when the data wireless
connection is restored.
Sometimes, you may find yourself in ‘dead zones’ where signals are
lost. Thanks to SportsRush advanced wireless technology, session
management retains information for up to 30 minutes from the last
activity made by the user – allowing you enough time to find a good zone
to re-connect. This session management feature only works if you do not
quit SportsRush, and for added security you’ll be asked to reenter your
password to confirm identity.
If you lose a connection while making a transaction, please check you
account history by logging into your account through the Sports Acumen
web site. If your wager was completed successfully, it will appear in
your account history. Transactions are never confirmed unless a
confirmation order has been processed.
What is roaming and how does it affect
SportsRush?
If you plan to travel frequently and want to use SportsRush away from
your normal network, it is important that you have the right mobile
phone for global roaming. In order to roam globally, your mobile phone
must have dual-band, tri-band or quad-band to allow for roaming on the
data protocol network known as GSM/GPRS. Naturally, the more bands your
device has, the greater your roaming capability becomes.
Don’t forget that your ‘home’ carrier must offer roaming access to
other locations around the world, and that additional charges may apply.
You should contact your carrier for details about fees and the countries
you can roam in.
What is Java?
Java is a programming language. SportsRush is an application
programmed in Java that you download to your mobile phone.
You may notice mobile phones being advertised in shops and by network
providers that support games. These are Java-based games (applications)
that are included with your mobile phone at time of purchase or easily
downloadable from your carrier network provider for a fee. However, we
don’t charge you any fee to download and use SportsRush.
What is WAP?
WAP is an interface language designed for wireless devices such as
your mobile phone. Because the interface uses a browser, you will find
it similar to Internet web browsing, although dramatically slower.
All information retrieved through WAP is held on web servers and is
downloaded when you enter each new page. Information displayed in a WAP
interface is not dynamically refreshed and can only be updated with user
input.
SportsRush uses WAP only for the download process, and for the
SportsRush mobile phone portal
http://get.sportsrush.com.au. The SportsRush application itself
doesn't use or need WAP
I’ve downloaded SportsRush but can't seem to
connect wirelessly?
Most phones are configured to access the wireless Internet through a
WAP gateway. As such, at time of purchase, your phone has the profile
set for this type of connectivity. When you downloaded SportsRush, this
actually occurred over a WAP gateway.
After
SportsRush has been installed, you may have tried to login and got an
error similar to the one shown to the right.
The first reason for this error is that you're in a location with no
mobile phone reception. As you'd expect, you have to go stand somewhere
else to use SportsRush.
The second reason is that you're out of your normal reception area
and your phone isn't set up for data roaming. You will need to speak to
your network provider to fix this.
The third reason is that your phone has not been configured
correctly. If you've gone through the SportsRush Sign Up Step 2, which
puts the correct settings in your phone, then please contact us using
the details here. We'll be able to sort you out.
I get a message about needing a network
connection, what does it mean?
When
you start SportsRush, you may see a message similar to the one shown to
the right (the actual message is different for different makes and
models of phones).
Don't be alarmed - this is standard phone security, warning you that
SportsRush will connect to the Internet and you may incur connection
charges. Just click Yes to continue.
The actual amount of data transferred is very small and will count
towards your data access plan with your carrier. For more information
about data costs, refer to this FAQ above.
